Artificial Intelligence might seem like magic to some, but for Lucas, it's a world of puzzles waiting to be solved. As an AI Engineer at Chainbalance, he's constantly tackling new challenges, pushing boundaries, and bringing innovative ideas to life. But how did he get here? Let's dive into Lucas's journey and what makes him tick.
The early sparks of AI passion
Lucas's fascination with programming began when he was just ten years old. Armed with Scratch, he started creating simple projects and quickly fell in love with coding. With each new programming language he learned, his passion for software development only grew stronger.
His father, who also works in software, was quite supportive and encouraging. He nurtured Lucas's interest in programming, sharing his knowledge and experience along the way. With his father's guidance and his own passion for creating video games, Lucas developed a deep curiosity for software development.
Lucas was especially drawn to AI—a field he saw as the ultimate puzzle, constantly pushing the boundaries of what was possible. He loved how AI could achieve things that seemed impossible just a few years ago. His journey into AI research started early, but when it came time to choose a study program, he hesitated. Because AI is such a rapidly evolving field, there was uncertainty about the quality of the course. Still, his curiosity won out—and he’s glad it did!
Initially, Lucas wanted to make games. But as he explored AI, he realized it was like solving intricate magic tricks — constantly pioneering and discovering new ways to make things work. That thrill of the unknown, the challenge of cracking difficult problems, was irresistible.
What makes AI engineering at Chainbalance so exciting?
For Lucas, it's all about the puzzles. Every project is a new challenge, and the thrill of finding solutions keeps him motivated. At Chainbalance, AI can play a role everywhere because it is an industry where optimization is key.
"What’s great about Chainbalance is that AI isn’t just a buzzword here — it genuinely makes a difference. In this industry, there are countless opportunities to apply AI in ways that truly improve systems, making them more efficient and effective. That’s what makes the work so rewarding."
The journey to Chainbalance
Lucas's adventure with Chainbalance started with an internship, where he focused on store-to-store transfers. Unlike many internship projects that collect dust, his project kept going. He continued working on it while balancing his studies, and now, after finishing his Bachelor of Science degree, he's fully immersed in AI development at Chainbalance.
But his learning journey isn't over yet—next year, he plans to pursue a master's degree to deepen his expertise.
Why Chainbalance?
Lucas values the technical challenges of his role, but what really sets Chainbalance apart for him is its impact.
"We're making a better world with AI, and the best part? It doesn't cost anyone anything."
He also appreciates the freedom he has at Chainbalance. Unlike in some companies where employees feel like just another cog in the machine, he's taken seriously here. His ideas matter, and that makes all the difference.

Life beyond AI
When he's not busy coding, Lucas is adventurous. He is very active in his scouting group and sometimes tells us about his impressive weekend activities, like building massive wooden structures—some reaching up to 28 meters high when topped with antennas!
He also plays tennis and loves diving into personal projects, experimenting, and building things just for fun. After all, problem-solving doesn't stop when work ends.
