From his passion for science fiction movies and writing programs on his programmable calculator at 8 years old to nearly 15 years of developing in C++, C#, and SQL. Sergiy Tolkachov has been working for Chainbalance as .Net and SQL Developer for over 5 years now. Who gifted him his first computer? What does he enjoy most about his job and about Chainbalance?
Watching science fiction movies as a child sparked Sergiy’s interest in computer science. Especially franchises like ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Dune’ made him want to dive deeper into the field. As computers were expensive, his parents gifted him a programmable calculator for his 8th birthday, which inspired him to write his first programs and read as much literature about it as possible. In high school, he moved on to BASIC, a programming language initially created to help non-scientific students use computers in the 60s. In this language, he wrote many programs on the school computer.
With his passion ignited so early in life, it came as no surprise that he entered Kherson Technical University to become a programmer, where he also got his first computer thanks to his grandmother. During his studies, he not only read all kinds of books about programming and worked in the university’s student scientific community, but he also got his first job as a C++ developer. Ever since then, he has been developing in C++, C#, and SQL.
Sergiy finds his work an interesting combination of time-tested enterprise technologies and modern approaches, while the environment and processes are continuously improved. This is something that inspires him. He further enjoys the independence his work offers.

Besides diving into books about the latest technologies, Sergiy enjoys developing his personal projects and publishes them on his GitHub (Curious? Check them out here: https://github.com/metatypeman). Besides developing new projects, he is a huge fan of 'The Lord of the Rings' and is still passionate about 'Star Wars' and 'Dune'. Admiring especially the detailed world building and characters in Lord of the Rings, as Middle Earth has a long and rich history. In sci-fi he is primarily drawn to the image of the future, both in the technologies used and the social structures and relations of the world. But Sergiy is not just drawn to the latest technologies or the beautiful worlds of, for example, 'The Lord of the Rings'. He is also an avid hiker and loves to explore new locations.
