Meet our expert Alexandra and read her story from fashion buying to fashion tech
Alexandra Maene’s path into the world of fashion tech is a unique blend of creativity, curiosity, and global perspective. With a foundation in Literature and Linguistics and a master’s degree in International Business Economics and Management, she brings both storytelling and strategy to her role as Business Development Manager at Chainbalance.
Her early passion for fashion began with rummaging through her mother’s wardrobe and evolved into a professional journey that took her from Brussels to Berlin. Starting out with internships in the local fashion scene, Alexandra eventually joined Zalando as a Buying Assistant in the women’s footwear department, a role she held for over five years. There, she experienced the challenges of overstocking, manual Excel-driven planning and the environmental cost of inefficiency firsthand.
Her academic interest in AI and customer engagement in fashion (the topic of her 2018 master’s thesis) turned prophetic: today, she helps brands embrace data-driven merchandise management to optimize their pre- and in-season management. With deep buyer expertise, she knows exactly how powerful automation can be, especially when it comes to replenishment, PO forecasting and reducing waste.
At Chainbalance, Alexandra is in her element: working with brands, solving real challenges and pushing for smarter, more sustainable practices in the fashion industry. She’s passionate about building relationships, listening to clients’ needs, and guiding them toward impactful solutions.
What makes her tick? A mix of analytical thinking and creative energy, whether at work or in her free time, where she enjoys dancing, reading, concerts, solo travel and art.
For Alexandra, fashion isn’t just about what we wear, it’s about how we make it smarter, more sustainable and more human. And at Chainbalance, she’s doing just that.
